IT Hardware Purchases

To ensure mandatory state and university regulations and policy guidelines are strictly adhered to in the procurement, inventorying and eventual deployment of both Designated Non-Capital Assets (DNCA) or other technology-related equipment, the EBO will work in close proximity with the Center Office of Information Technology and Communications (OITC) to pre-screen and validate any such request for purchase.

IT purchase requests which reference vendors from outside of the approved university lists or equipment-systems which fail to meet base UMD or Center standards and requirements for security, warranty and data integrity safeguards and protections will not be processed.

Software Purchases - UMD Site Licensing

All requests for software related purchases will be routed through the ESSIC Office of Information Technology and Communications (OITC) to verify university standards and compliances for installation, data protections and use cases are maintained.

Note to prospective end-users of UMD site licenses: The majority of products offered through UMD site licensing are available for “Departmental” use ONLY. Product installation is prohibited on anything other than University of Maryland owned and managed computers. The exception to this rule are products which are also licensed for “Work at Home” usage.

Important: All newly submitted requests for travel or procurement will enter the EBO on-line system in an unassigned/non-processed state, pending the electronic approval of the associated ESSIC PI.

All newly submitted requests for procurement will enter the EBO on-line system in an unassigned/non-processed state, pending the electronic approval of the associated ESSIC PI.

Through the submittal of an electronic approval, the ESSIC PI authorizes the ESSIC Business Office to begin processing a pending purchasing request, originated by themself or a group member.

The electronic approval additionally confirms that the ESSIC PI is both fully compliant with the funding source (KFS) provided and has clarified any questions or issues with the EBO, prior to submitting their authorization.
